Toys for Tots Summary

Toys for Tots was a successful drive this year.  Metrowest Detachment #1037 members managed many donation points throughout the area.  Pickups from donation points and deliveries to the pods were conducted with efficiency in spite of rain, snow, and fatigue.  Processing, distribution, and storage of donations is ongoing with Marine Corps League members from across the state participating.  Since 1947 this program has brought some joy to children who might otherwise have been bypassed.   Statewide, 137,000 toys valued at $2.5 million were collected.  60,000 children benefited from these donations. We are pleased to have been able to contribute in some way and appreciate the merchants and others who provided us with donation space.

Iwo Jima Day Ceremony Scheduled for February 19

The Detachment will again play lead role in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts observation of Iwo Jima Day in February.  All members are encouraged to attend to commemorate this landmark battle that even today defines the Marine Corps spirit.  On a tiny island where uncommon valor was a common virtue, Marines and FMF Corpsmen and Chaplains changed the direction of the war.  We are proud to be part of this observation.  The following are details:
11:00 AM:  Assemble at Samuel Adams Statue at the West Side of Faneuil Hall.
11:30 AM:  Parade to State House Kicks Off
12:00 Noon:  Iwo Jima Day Ceremonies in the Hall of Flags at the State House.
Collation will follow the ceremony.

VA Outreach

The first Wednesday in February will be the monthly Jamaica Plain VA visit.  Patients look forward to the Bingo games and conversation.  Paul Carew and Ed Jolly can always use more help in this outreach.

Upcoming Meetings

At the February  meeting we will resume detachment business and outreach.  Although there is snow on the ground, it is not too early to be thinking about golf tournament sponsors that can be contacted. We look for continued strong attendance and urge all members to reach out to any potential new members.
