From the Commandant:

I want to express my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the Golf Committee for having executed a virtually flawless event that provided an excellent day of golf and camaraderie for the players and resulted in a strong fundraising result to support our charitable outreach.  Building on the strong legacy left by Tom Potenza and Ed Jolley, the Golf Tournament was again a well organized and enjoyable event.
Jim Hastings, "Mac" MacEntegart, John Chrisafulli and Mike Whalen, and Bill Costello formed the core of this committee that pulled this event together.  This was also an occasion where the detachment stood up and participated as we had strong participation on the day of the tournament to assist with registration and on-course assignments.  At the end of the day, the mission was accomplished, again demonstrating what a few motivated Marines can do.
With the final tally still in progress, it appears that an amount in excess of $13,000 will be available to support detachment outreach.  With the combination of the effort of the committee, participation of  detachment members and friends, the support of our advertisers and sponsors, and of course the players, we will be in good position to continue our support of charities like the Semper Fi Injured Marine Fund as well as the immediate needs of Marines and other veterans as they arise.  Our scholarship program will continue and we will be able to contribute to veteran oriented events and education.  For those who participated, especially our committed Golf Committee,  I salute you and express the thanks of the detachment.

Please keep in mind the many advertisers, sponsors and donors who contributed to the success of this event.  As you make your decisions to choose where to shop and services to use, please remember these supporters

Fort Devens Cookouts:

The next cookout at Fort Devens will be on September 12th.  Preparation will begin at 1030 and the event should be completed by 2:00.  The proceeds from these cookouts go to support the 25th Marines Marine Corps Ball and help make that event affordable for the troops.  This is a good opportunity to interact with today's Marines and see some of the equipment.  Please consider helping out.

During July, detachment members and MCL members from across the state cooked for over 400 Marines and family members at the 25th Marines Family day.  With bounce houses of various kinds and an excellent meal provided by the MCL, a good time was had by all.

Enigma Rod Shop Open House:

Members Mac MacEntegart and Jim Hastings were among the MCL members who braved torrential rain and lightning to help run the Enigma Rod Shop Open House.  Although the weather impacted the number of cars on display and people in attendance, it did not deter the generosity of those who contributed over $11,000 to the the Fisher House.  This annual event will occur again in the first week of August next year at which time MCL support will gain be sought.

Meeting Schedule:

As summer wanes, it is time to get back into the swing of regular meetings.  These meetings are your opportunity to raise ideas or express concerns, as well as to enjoy the company of your fellow Marines and Corpsmen.  Make a note to keep the evening of the the third Tuesday of the month, at 7:30, for meeting at the AMVETS on Superior Drive in Natick.  For the duration of 2015 meetings will be on September 15, October 19, November 16 and December 21.

Social Events:

Response to the August 29th cookout has been positive.  We are very interested in continuing to have this type of activity that can include members, family, and friends in an informal setting.  The Marine Corps Birthday would be a great opportunity to have a shared meal and observation of the day.   If you have interest in pursuing this idea, please contact me at davegentes@comcast.net or 781 235 8085.
