From the Commandant

Last month the officers for the upcoming year were sworn in.  I am very pleased to have a strong leadership team in place for the upcoming year.  With the continued support of the membership and friends, we will be able to successfully continue the outreach and fellowship that the detachment has maintained for over fifteen years.  If you have time to commit to detachment activities, I hope that you will come forward to help.  If time is at a premium, please remember that even an hour here or there is a help.  Together we are a force to be reckoned with.
The immediate mission is to bring the golf tournament to a successful end.  Each of us can do something.  Making that extra call to get an ad is one thing that is a help.  Most of the time, merchants and professionals are happy to help.  A personal ad is a nice touch and can be used to recognize someone in your life.  Arranging for a raffle prize is another way to help.  Chances are that you have something in the house already, like a gift that has not been used, that is appropriate as a prize.  Asking at stores that you frequent is often successful.  We should all be able to buy a book of chances for the 50/50 raffle.  If you are able to help on the day of the tournament, it will be a help.  This is where we make the bulk of the funds that support our programs.  You can be part of the mission success.

June Meeting Update

On June 16th, the detachment met as scheduled.  The meeting was called to order at 1930 with 11 members in attendance.  This is the final meeting before the summer.  We will resume scheduled meetings on September 15th.  Meetings are your time to be heard so attendance is encouraged.

The Golf Committee reports that planning is continuing on track.   Initial sign ups for players is going well.  We continue to need all hands to actively pursue advertising and raffle prizes.

The Chaplain reported on the passing of member Frank Muise.  No notice of services has been received.  Member James Delaney is continuing to progress and has received cards

We have received a note of thanks for our support of the Semper Fi Fund.  Although the fighting overseas has been drawn down, there is still for support from injured troops.

A Special Note

At the recent state convention in Hyannis, Metrowest member and Senior Vice Commandant Jim Hastings was announced as the 2015 Marine of the Year for the State of Massachusetts.  This well deserved recognition acknowledges Jim's many contributions to the MCL at the detachment and the state level, his detailed civic involvement, and his commitment to veteran's causes.  We are all aware of Jim's strong contribution to the Metrowest detachment.  Please join me in congratulating Jim on this well deserved honor.
