From the Commandant:

As we approach the end of summer, we are still calculating the returns from the 16th Annual Golf Tournament.  So far, all indications are that we have had another successful year.   This event is the primary fundraiser for the outreach of the detachment.  We are grateful to the members and volunteers who made it all happen.  We also thank the players, many of whom come back year after year to support the tournament.  Prior to the day of the tournament, there is a lot of planning and effort to sell ad space and to arrange for prizes.  The core group that comprises the Golf Committee put in a lot of time to make the day of the tournament the smooth event that everyone experienced. In future years, we hope that we will see continued and expanded participation of members to sustain the tournament.
We want to expend special thanks to the many vendors and merchants who provided advertising, services, and prizes.  Without the support of these committed resources, we would not be able to conduct this tournament.  Thank you to all who worked so hard to provide a special day.

We will resume scheduled meetings on Tuesday, September20 at 7:30 PM at the Natick AMVETS.  All members are encouraged to attend.  Individuals who have interest in the activities and values of the Marine Corps League but who do not meet membership qualifications are welcome to join as Associate Members.  While Associate Members do not vote on MCL matters, we do welcome and cherish their talent, motivation, and contributions.

Annual Family Cookout:

On August 20th, members and their families spent a lovely summer afternoon enjoying a cookout on the shores of Lake Cochituate at the Natick AMVETS.  Commandant Jim Hastings brought his skill to the grill and provided a solid menu of expertly cooked meals. Salads, desserts, and other treats were brought in by family members.  Vonnie Clark's renowned cole slaw was again a big hit.  The Young Marines attended and were able to enjoy the lake, as well as having the opportunity to learn about WWII USMC vehicles and equipment, provided by Mac MacEntegart.    We hope that this event will continue to grow.

Fort Devens, 25th Marines Events:

We will be providing monthly cookouts for the 25th Marines.  We provide the food and labor to feed the Marines who pay a nominal charge for lunch.    All proceeds are used to defer the cost of the Marine Corps Ball.  This is a great opportunity to interact with today's Marines and to see the equipment that is now in use.

Meeting Schedule:  Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM at the Natick AMVETS at 1 Superior Drive.  Members are encourage to attend.  For the duration of 2016 meetings will be held on:

     September 20        October 18        November 15       December 20

Upcoming Events:

Plans are in place to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday on November 10 at the Framingham Elks.  WE will conduct the traditional cake cutting and associated ceremony.   We welcome the input from those who wish to participate in the planning for this event.  Contact any of the leadership team to get involved.
