Metrowest Marine Corps League Detachment #1037 Welcomes all potential Members and Associate Members

Tuesday, January 28, 2025

From the Commandant:

The January meeting was convened at the scheduled time of 7:00 PM on 21 January.

Items that were discussed include:

NOTE: The time for the Iwo Jima Day Observation was previously listed as 12:00 noon.  That is incorrect and the correct start time is 11:00 AM.

The 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima will be observed at the MA State House on 19 February at 11:00 AM.  The General Law of the Commonweath calls for this observation as noted in Chapter 6, Section 12AA. "The governor shall annually issue a proclamation calling for the observance of February nineteenth as Iwo Jima Day, commemorating the extreme heroism and courage of the men and women of the armed forces of the United States who participated in the successful assault of the island of Iwo Jima where ''extraordinary valor was common virtue'', and recommending that said day be observed in appropriate manner by the public"

The Marine Corps League encourages all members to attend as they are able.

The detachment was notified that member Joseph Conti has passed away in the recent past.  We extend our condolence.  Rest in Peace, Marine.

Detachment Judge Advocate Steve Stefan and Sergeant at Arms David Barth are dealing with medical issues.  We hope for smooth recovery for both.

MCL National has mailed membership cards to all members.  As always, please attend to keeping your membership in good standing.

 From the Commandant:

Welcome to 2025 and Happy New Year.  This year will see the observance of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corps.  We will make every effort to provide information on events that will be held to commemorate this occasion.  We have a long and proud history of service to the country.  This is a great time to consider being active in the Marine Corps League and being part of this celebration.

Hopefully, everyone had a safe and rewarding holiday season.  The Toys for Tots program was again completed under the leadership of Rich Douglas.  The detachment may not have had the level of manpower as in other years but the committed participants that we had put forth a strong effort.

Perhaps you have a family connection to the Marine Corps like a son, daughter or other relative who is serving of has served.  Perhaps you have been looking for an organization that is committed to supporting the Marine Corps and the community as a whole.   Associate membership in the Marine Corps League is a way to bring your time and talents to the many activities that we offer.  We have worked to preserve local veterans' memorials.  We provide activities for the Marine Corps Reserve Unit at Fort Devens.  We work actively with the Blackstone Valley Young Marines.  Toys for Tots is a long standing, visible program.  We welcome your ideas and energy as an Associate Member.  While this is a non-voting membership, there are no other limits on what you can do and accomplish.  More detailed information is at the bottom of this page or you can inquire via email at david.gentes@gmail.com.

The next detachment meeting is on 21 January at the Natick AMVETS at 1 Superior Drive.  Meetings start at 7:00 PM
