Marine Corps League Metrowest Detachment #1037

The Detachment meets every third Tuesday of the month at 1900 Hours (7:00 PM)
Meeting location is the Natick Amvets Post 79, 1 Superior Drive Natick MA 01760
Please plan on attending the next detachment meeting- April 19, 2022.

Administrative Notes: Annual dues of $30.00 for regular members are due by August 31.  As late payment creates paperwork for the Paymaster, members are encouraged to make payment on time.  Life membership is a convenient and cost - effective way to handle dues.  Information on life membership can be obtained via the Paymaster.

March Meeting Notes:

Commandant McEntegart brought the meeting to order at 1900 Hours.  The roll call of officers was held.  The Sergeant at Arms was absent and the Jr. Vice Commandant was excused.

A motion was made to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as posted.  This was voted on and accepted.

Correspondence was received from the Semper Fi Injured Marines Fund requesting a donation.  This request was tabled until the next meeting.  A letter of thanks was received from the Beverly High School JROTC unit to acknowledge a donation that was made recently.

The report of the Paymaster was read.  Motion was made and seconded to accept the report as read.  This was approved by vote.

Chaplain Mike Whelan reported that Jinm Hastings wife had suffered a serious leg injury that will require extensive rehab.  Glen Chambliss returned from surgery that was successful.  He encourages everyone who may have been exposed to Agent Orange to follow up with their doctor.

Warren Griffin reported that the Modern Day Marine exhibition will be held in Washington D.C.

There was discussion about the potential of holding a gold tournament this year.  While this has been a successful fund raiser for 20 years, it is very labor intensive and many merchants who have contributed to the success have been impacted by COVID.  Discussion will continue prior to commitments being made.

Elections for officers were held.  The incoming slate of officers will be Mike Whelan-Commandant; Dave Gentes-Sr. Vice Commandant;
Warren Griffin-Judge Advocate.  The remaining slots will be established in future by vote or appointment.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40.  All are encouraged to attend the next meeting on April 19.

From the Commandant:

March 9, 2022

Marines,

The next detachment meeting- March 15, 2022 will be an important meeting as a lot of detachment business needs to be discussed.  With the Governor's recent removal of mask mandates and the easing of COVID, it will be easier to attend and to participate in detachment decisions.  All members are encouraged to attend and to be active in making contact with potential new members.

Nominations for detachment officers will be made this month, with elections to follow in April.  All voting members in good standing are eligible to be nominated and elected to a leadership role.  This is an opportunity for you to be active in setting the direction for the detachment.  Please plan to attend the meeting and participate in this process.

We are in the planning stages for the annual golf tournament.  This is where we got most of our funds.  To run a successful tournament is a big undertaking.  We have been fortunate to have committed leaders over the 20 years that this tournament has been held but we need to get as many members and supporters involved as possible.

In addition, members wishing to make nominations for Detachment Marine of the Year can send nomination information to the Commandant at the following address:  22 Potter Road, Framingham, MA 01701.   Nominations should include a statement of the activities of your nominee's activities in the detachment and the community.   Any voting member in good standing can be nominated.  Past Marine of the Year recipients will meet to select this year's recipient after the April meeting.

The detachment sock drive has been successfully wrapped up.  Socks are very much in demand for VA patients and these donations will be put to good use in the VA Hospital.  We thank all of the members and families that contributed to the success of this effort.  The detachment has a strong history of supporting good causes and your ideas and participation will help.

The Department of Massachusetts MCL Meeting will be held on 20 March at the Shutt Detachment in Watertown, The State Convention will be held on 3, 4, and 5 June in Hyannis.  More information will follow shortly.
